Tools for the Job

Have you ever been asked to work on a project on the job only to discover that you don’t have access to the right tools to complete that project?

This occurs on a regular basis at my current place of employment.  I have observed in the past year that the necessary tools to complete projects and tasks in the workplace are in short supply on a daily basis.  In order for supervisors and associates to complete tasks in my workplace they need two things.  A scan gun and a printer.  Without both of these tools many of the things that are demanded of them daily simply cannot be completed in a timely and well organized fashion.  Yet it seems that those in management are more focused on the task and the time rather than ensuring that their teams have the tools and training to get the job done well and in a timely manner.   I have always believed in focusing on helping those I am leading and supervising to succeed and to grow.  In order to do that I must provide them the tools, the time to train, and focusing on helping them to succeed.  It is a far better principle to set people up to succeed rather than “throw them to the wolves” to fail.

Career Change Resolution

I have spent the majority of my working years thus far only pursuing those jobs that are below my skills and abilities.  The result of this type of career choice has been low pay and low morale, and lots of frustration.  A couple of years ago, I set out to finish what I started so long ago in completing my pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.  Finally, this year I will have that goal completed.  I have made the choice to now pursue a new career path.  I have decided to no longer settle for a job that I think I can handle.  I have enough marketable skills, experience, and now education to challenge myself to pursue a new career path that will challenge me and benefit any employer or organization.  I have had enough of the “dead-end” low wage, low skills required type of career.  Now it is time to move up and move on to something completely different.
